About

Jasper Dommett (b. 1997) is a multi-award-winning British composer studying at the Royal Welsh College of Music and Drama.

His music has been performed by soloists and ensembles such as BBC National Orchestra of Wales, London Sinfonietta, Berkeley Ensemble, Young Artists Sinfonia, Fenella Humphreys, and George Fu & Thomas Ang, with performances at St Martin-in-the-Fields, St Davids Hall, Dora Stoutzker Hall & BBC Hoddinott Hall.

Recent works include Night Music for BBC NOW and Rothko Room, designed to be performed at the Tate Modern. After the success of Night Music, Jasper received the Welsh Music Guild Paul Mealor Award for Student Composers, which included a commission for a song-cycle for the Welsh baritone Jeremy Huw Williams.

As part of Tŷ Cerdd’s CoDI Mentor scheme, Jasper has been writing for Psappha’s Jennifer Langridge (cello) and Benjamin Powell (piano). Looking toward 2021, Jasper is collaborating with opera director and librettist Fleur Snow on his first Opera, Coram Boy, based on the play of the same name by Helen Edmundson.

Recipient of the “Paul Mealor Award for Student Composers: 2020”
Winner of The Lord Lingfield Medal for music 2018

Jasper also enjoys a successful career as a baritone horn player, performing regularly with the Flowers Band (Gloucester) at venues such as the Royal Albert Hall, Birmingham Symphony Hall, Sage Gateshead and across Europe.

Jasper’s brass band music has received particular acclaim, with a recent commission to write a new fanfare to celebrate the 150th anniversary of Girton College, Cambridge. The fanfare, written to celebrate the 5 founding women of the college, has since been adopted by the RWCMD for its 2020 graduation celebration. 2020 also saw the recording of Jasper’s first tenor horn concerto, Matryoshka, written for Ross Dunne and the Tredegar Band on the World of Brass label.
